And all that jazz! Euroradio marks International Jazz Day
25 April 2017For the second year in a row, Euroradio will mark UNESCO's International Jazz Day on 30 April with a series of special concerts.
International Jazz Day brings together musicians, jazz enthusiasts and students throughout the world to celebrate and learn about jazz and its roots.
As part of the festivities, some 14 hours of live or pre-recorded jazz programmes by EBU radio organizations will be available to Euroradio Members in MUS as part of the 2016-2017 Concert Season.
This year's contributions range from a programme featuring the five saxophonists of the Bulgarian National Radio Big Band, or the Sisters of Invention, the Swedish sister act who won last year's Euroradio Jazz Competition (pictured), to a new work specially composed for French-Swiss Radio by trumpeter Matthieu Michel, and a BBC blend of jazz classics by Gershwin, Ellington and Legrand featuring vocalist Jacqui Dankworth and her trio along with a quartet led by Tommy Smith, composer/conductor of the 2016 Euroradio Jazz Orchestra.
