In response to the crisis in Ukraine, the EBU music community is organizing special activities to support Ukraine, sharing them with all the radio organizations.
On Friday 4 March 2022, at 08.45 CET, more than 160 public radio channels across Europe – including Ukrainian Radio – came together in a simultaneous broadcast of John Lennon’s powerful song of unity, hope and peace, Give Peace a Chance. Based on an initiative from EBU Member radioeins (rbb), the symbolic transmission featured over 28 countries, and also had the support of European commercial radio, including channels in Germany, Belgium and Luxembourg. Radioeins (rbb) developed the initiative as a demonstration of how the power of radio can amplify growing support for peace and create a united movement across the continent.
On 10 March 2022, 59 EBU classical channels in Europe and beyond gave powerful and meaningful airtime in an Ode to Peace, as a testament to the human spirit. They came together to broadcast part or all of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony. Inspired by an initiative from Radio Romania, an EBU Member, this transmission was heard in 33 countries at various moments of the day in many different versions of the same work with musicians chosen specifically by each broadcaster for that special day.
