Environmental Sustainability

Environmental sustainability tops the agenda for global concerns. Citizens want to act and show a growing interest in climate change news but struggle to digest misinformation and complex topics. The media plays a pivotal role in shaping how the public perceives, discusses, and acts on climate change. Public service media (PSM) has a unique role in keeping the public informed and empowered. That is why almost the entire European Broadcasting Area is involved in environmental sustainability.

This report explores the sustainable practices of PSM, their organizational strategies, and the environmental frameworks they follow. It also outlines important regulatory changes and how PSM are preparing. A dedicated chapter underscores the vital responsibility public service media has in promoting thorough climate journalism. Last but not least, the report raises important questions on the role of big tech, the impact of AI, and the need for resources to support ongoing  efforts.

Find out how environmental sustainability shapes PSM organizations and creates a positive impact both within the organization and throughout society.
